Currently, as the critical period for cotton sowing arrives, sowing operations across Regiment 3 of the 1st Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps have fully commenced and are expected to be completed by April 10.

According to reports, this year's spring sowing in Regiment 3 is not merely a routine operation aimed at seizing the optimal agricultural window; it represents a practical exercise in industrial upgrading that integrates technological empowerment, localized service delivery, and innovative operational models. Sowing machines equipped with the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System are capable of precision sowing along pre-programmed routes, achieving fully mechanized laying of drip irrigation tapes and plastic mulches with a linear deviation of no more than 2 centimeters. Compared to traditional sowing methods, this approach saves over 50% on cotton seeds and lays a solid foundation for subsequent field management and harvesting.
On the 2nd, a visit to the cotton fields of Han Shijiang—a worker in the 2nd Company of Regiment 3—revealed several workers methodically loading fertilizer into spreaders. The fertilizer mixture was precisely formulated and applied uniformly, establishing a robust nutrient foundation for the cotton's germination and growth. "In previous years, spring sowing inevitably brought challenges regarding fertilizer ratios and machinery calibration. This year, however, the Company's 'Two Committees' [leadership and supervisory bodies] have remained on-site in the fields throughout the process; they are available on call to resolve any issues, saving us a great deal of worry," Han Shijiang remarked while inspecting the fertilizer application.
"Land preparation must meet the standards of being 'level, finely tilled, and sufficiently moist.' Sowing depth should be controlled between 2 and 3 centimeters, and plant spacing maintained at approximately 11 to 12 centimeters; only then can we ensure uniform germination and consistent growth," a technical specialist explained to the workers while providing a hands-on demonstration in the field.
According to Zhang Jianliang, Deputy Director of the Center for Agriculture, Forestry, and Grasslands, Regiment 3 is focusing this year on enhancing the quality of cotton sowing. They have assembled a service team comprising five professional technical experts to provide targeted technical guidance across specific zones and plots. From land preparation, seed selection, and sowing to the laying of drip irrigation tapes, every stage is subject to "continuous monitoring and strict quality control" to ensure that spring sowing standards are fully met. “This year, I planted over 120 mu of cotton. By utilizing the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System for sowing, I not only saved on labor and effort, but the uniformity of the seeding also improved significantly; the seedling emergence rate is expected to rise by 5% to 8%.” Pointing to a sowing machine currently in operation, Xu Mingqiang explained that 50% of the cotton fields have already been sown; at the current pace, the remaining fields are expected to be fully planted within two days.
