Spring Sowing of 171,000 Mu of Cotton Kicks Off at Regiment 149

Addtime:2026-04-02 Hits:7

On April 1, within Field No. 6 of Company 16 under Regiment 149 of the 8th Division, Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC), high-horsepower tractors equipped with the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System operated smoothly and sowed seeds with precision. As individual cotton seeds settled into the fertile soil, it marked the official commencement of the spring sowing campaign for the regiment's 171,000 mu of cotton fields.

The sowing sites were scenes of bustling activity, as staff from the Regiment's Agriculture and Forestry Center—alongside members of the Company's "Two Committees" (Party Branch and Administrative Committee)—ventured deep into the fields to supervise and inspect the quality of the sowing operations. During this critical period for spring sowing, the Party Branches of each company fully leveraged the guiding role of Party building, organizing Party members and cadres to step forward proactively and serve as dedicated facilitators for the spring farming effort. These cadres prioritized the urgent needs and resolved the difficulties faced by the community members; they strictly oversaw field management, production safety, sowing quality, and progress timelines, while coordinating on-site solutions for the various challenges workers encountered during spring farming, thereby ensuring the high-quality and efficient advancement of the entire spring sowing campaign.

Sun Xiaohui—Deputy Company Commander and Party Branch Committee Member of Company 16, Regiment 149—told this reporter: "This year, our company plans to plant 11,000 mu of cotton, 3,000 mu of peanuts, and 800 mu of corn. Sowing has now begun in succession. The company has adopted a 'zone-based responsibility system' for the 'Two Committees,' providing end-to-end tracking and support services; we anticipate fully completing the sowing tasks within 10 days."

Currently, Regiment 149 is actively preparing to host an on-site observation meeting for cotton sowing. Across the regiment, all companies are seizing the opportunity presented by favorable sunny weather to scientifically coordinate their efforts in strict accordance with the agricultural calendar. They are implementing a synchronized model wherein sowing and the laying of irrigation pipes proceed in parallel—ensuring that as soon as one plot is sown, the pipes are laid immediately thereafter. This creates a seamless transition into the subsequent field management phase, laying a solid foundation for the drip irrigation-assisted cotton emergence process and fully safeguarding a bountiful cotton harvest for the entire year.
